Hiking in Southeast Alaska

May hiking in Southeast Alaska usually leads to snow.

Kake, Alaska

We are in Kake, picking up our next group of kayakers.  Weather permitting, we'll head down the east side of Baranof and around Cape Ommaney, then up the west side of Baranof to Sitka.  We are unlikely to have much internet access until we get to Sitka around June 9.

We have lots of photos from the last trip to share.  Our current connection will not handle photos, so we'll try again tomorrow before we leave town.

The kayaking on the west side of Kuiu was terrific.  The photo opportunities (and the kayaking) on the east side of Baranof were amazing!

First Trip of 2008

We had a great week on the west side of Kuiu Island and the east side of Baranof Island .  Rain, sun, snow on the ground, bears, whales and otters.  The kayaking and hiking were fantastic.  The internet connection at our current location is not good enough to upload photos, but we'll get some posted ASAP.

In the meantime, to our always-first to join us group from Anchorage, we miss you already.  And we look forward to those of you who have yet to spend a week on our mothership.

We Are Ready To Kayak

Kim and I arrived in Alaska last week.  We had our annual USFS service inspection and made it to a ham radio boaters rendezvous in plenty of time.  Occasionally there are weather systems that come through.  The one we are currently sitting out is affecting the entire west coast.  No worries, we have our books, our scrabble game and our DVDs to pass the time.  Tomorrow looks good.  If you are joining us this summer, see you soon.  This is going to be a great summer!
