Orcas

When all is said and done I think that Orcas are my favorite.  They are vicious, elusive and no nonsense.  Always on a mission which makes them a little tricky to photograph.  We have not had one pose for us yet...hah!  Depsite all of the recent talk about transient whales eating only mammals and resident pods eating only fish there are new theories that that is a bunch of hooey.  Some biologists now say that Orcas are waaay too oportunistic to pass up a good meal of any kind.  Certainly, we all have preferences.  Here is a pretty little female that rolled by:

Bubble Net Feeding Whales are always a Thrill

This was one of the largest groups of cooperative feeding whales we have ever seen.  They did their bubble net for us over and over feeding on herring.  According to a popular BBC video there are only 100 whales in the world that eat together like this.   Somebody must have set the table because we counted 15 in this pod.
