...always one of the highlights to a trip to Glacier Bay National Park.  I hope it is still here in 50 years.

Paddling in Alaska in Calm Seas

You can expect a little of all kinds of weather while paddling with us for a week, including flat seas and clear skies.  Temperatures are generally very moderate, 50s and 60s.  You can't come to a rain forest without being prepared for some rain.

 

 

 

Never Can Tell...Aboard the SE Alaska Kayak Mothership

...I  have given up trying to figure what our guests are doing all the time.  But, I do know two things:  Where else can you eat a glacier, and where are you going to have fun doing it?

Alaska Kayak Mothership Goes to Ireland???

No...but the crew did!!!  Paddling in Ireland was so much fun.  Who knew?  Southwest Ireland is beautiful, friendly, and is part of a peaceful nation.  Let's go back!

Glacier Bay 2017

Started off the summer with three weeks in the pristine Glacier Bay National Park. Here are some of our Highlights!

What is Up with Kake, Alaska?

We do a couple of trips a year in or out of Kake, on Kupreanof Island because it is wonderful.  A Tlingit Village in a spectacular location.  A map will show it is at the intersection of 5 bodies of water:  North Chatham Strait, South Chatham Strait, Frederick Sound, Stephens Passage, and Keku Strait.  That means endless kayaking opportunities where very few paddlers go.  The confluence of these Straits means good whale and wildlife viewing, good fishing, fun currents, and amazing scenery.  Ever been to Kake?  We still have room in July, 2017.

A Green Vacation on the Alaska Kayak Mothership

Let's do a little math...  The average week, we travel 150 miles on Abyssinia getting to and from our favorite anchorages where we paddle each day.  That means we motor approximately 20 hours total.  That equates to 100 gallons of fuel (including generators making our electricity).  Divided by five paddlers plus two crew is 14 gallons each.  Not bad.  I bet you burn that much in your car next week...
